Sophie Hugh represented New Zealand in the sport of table tennis for well over a decade, as one of the top female players in the nation – even from the age of 13 when she was first ranked among the top 10 women in the country. Hugh competed in multiple continental events, World Cadet, Junior and Senior Championships, Commonwealth Games, World University Games and was one of the leading competitors domestically across her playing career.
18 gold medals in individual events at the New Zealand Open across her career, which along with her team titles, marks over 2 dozen national titles to her name. Apart from being one of the top athletes during her playing career, she is also a qualified coach by the International Table Tennis Federation and also has the credentials to educate coaches under the ITTF Coaching Certification Program.
